Life is about goals. And goals never get achieved unless you set them.
I’m not the first person to run my age, nor will I be the last. But I decided to do this as a Big, Hairy, Audacious Goal for myself. It’s something that will take me a year to prepare for (every day, not just once in a while) and lots of mental focus.
I run because I can. I’ve been blessed with a healthy body that I’m doing my best to take care of. I’m not doing it to draw attention to myself, but I’m using the natural attention it draws to bring awareness – and hopefully your resources – to a great organization that helps students set goals and achieve them.
Check out The Cause and Journal portions of this site to learn more about my preparation and the Salama Institute.

I am looking forward to participating in this event in order to support my brother-in-law, and the cause he has chosen. I am not sure how far I will run with him on this admirable goal of 56 miles, but I will run. I hope to encourage others to participate in running and raising donations. Become “One of Many” who will help Bill help the students !!!
Bill (aka Forrest Gump),
Nicely done. When you turn 100 and get set to run 100 miles let me know. I just might join you!

This BHAG has inspired me to re-examine my life., my priorities, and what I’m doing to improve my health. . . I’m so proud of Bill for his focus to undertake this kind of adventure and to give back to a great charity. I’ll be on the side lines cheering him on. . . Pam
Bill,
I thoroughly enjoyed reading about this incredible goal you have set out to achieve. I hope that hydration mix helps you stay energized during your training. Continue running for a great cause!

Bill-you are an inspiration for all of us and especially ones from younger generations. I want to be doing what you’re doing when I’m 56!
P.S. I want to run some of those miles with ya
Wow! I am new to the Salama family as a volunteer. I am so excited about serving under the leadership of someone with such huge commitment and sincerity. Awesome!
Bill
Great web site. No limits to a man with a great attitude. I’ll be there for you.

Truly inspirational!
Such a challenging goal will only prove to make the accomplishment that much more rewarding. You are in my thoughts and prayers during this journey.
I better start hitting the pavement if I plan on even doing 29 at 29!
Will you run part of the journey with me? I am amassing a list of people that will run varying distances with me?
I know Dave McGillivray (the race director of the Boston Marathon) has been running his age on his birthday for many years and he actually just completed a 56 mile run for his birthday this past week! Best of luck and enjoy the miles.
Bill, you are such an inspiration, keep up the good work. I’m back to working third shift so I’ll be there for those early weekend breakfasts
See you soon!
Happy birthday, Bill!
At first we joked that you are running the 56 miles because you thought you had the winning bid for 2 cases of beer !!!!! But after sharing this past weekend with you we recognize your passion and sincere commitment to the Salama Institute. Know our spirits and support will be with on every step of the way . . . walls will be minor clouds so Salama will receive the sunshine it deserves. PS . . . Happy Birthday !!!!!!
Happy Birthday, Bill! Praying for good weather for tomorrow and for your strength to hold out. Thanks for your dedication to Salama.
